Handwoven War Rug (Rocket Launcher)

0.00

During the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan in the 70's these pictorial rugs have become a tradition of telling a story. It is a historical marker of events, horrors, and yearning for peace. The rugs at first glance can seem unsettling but what they really are is a record of a point in time in a land of constant war. Some of these are made by weavers living in the north and are sometimes sold near military bases. The history of woven rugs contain symbols and characters that are ancient in tradition and passed down to future weavers. These rugs are contemporary versions, of that tradition, that carry symbols of recent events serving as a grim reminder, and also a constant bid for peace.  We have three different types in stock. Each is hand woven and made out of wool.  This piece measures: 24" x 30"
