This dental phantom is from the 1950’s and has a very intense protective coating over the aluminum head. This started around the early 60’s to keep the heads from oxidizing while working with the phantom in wet environments . The coating is not paint but a very durable polymer that resists acid, water, and chemicals. I am not sure why they went crazy on the coating but I run into these once in a while. It definitely has a look to it and paired up with the aluminum teeth set it gives it an unsettling medical aesthetic. The last photo shows one of same age but in polished metal that came from the same dental lab (listed separately ) . Comes on custom steel display stand as shown.
