This surgical light was acquired from a small medical museum in central Indiana that closed its doors. Quite a stunning piece made by Westinghouse X-Ray Co. Long Island City NY. The lamp measures 36” in diameter and the center prism refractor has a knob that lowers or raises the bulb providing different intensity . The Scialytic is a term used for ‘dispelling shadows’ or shadowless which was an important innovation in surgical lights. Made of aluminum and mirrors that reflect the central prismatic light source into a clean central focus. The piece is quite huge and you can see the size relationship against the 1945 Operay Multibeam, which isn’t a small light.
