Operay Multibeam Surgical Lamp C.1931
Operay Multibeam Surgical Lamp C.1931
The Operay Multibeam was first invented in the 1930's as the first shadowless surgical light. It was quite sought after in operation amphitheaters . This lamp had a short life span since its powerful arc would react to gasses in the operating room and cause explosions. Its successor was encased making it explosion proof. (We have an excellent one listed)
The mechanism consists of a bulb on the inside that reflects off six tiny concave mirrors that act as the focus to direct the beam through the lenses bouncing off the mirror plates and creating a singular focus.
This lamp has been rewired and has an adapted 1960’s stem that allows sliding via the track for more versatility. The knob adjust the angle of the light and it swivels so you can configure it many different ways.
The light body has been left as I got it with a nice weathering to the paint and the patina on the heavy copper ball counterweight. You can add any standard bulb to the inside of lamp and the top. A few age old cracks are on one of the lenses and two of the mirrors also have .5” to 1.5 inch crack that was on the piece when I had it and are stable old wear.
