1903 Fairfield State Hospital Aluminum Face Guard

$0.00

This aluminum mask dating from 1903 has several purposes. First the mask is a protective shield for the violent patient preventing one from being bit or spit on. The other feature is that the hatch opens to sedate the patient while still allowing them to breath. Quite a rare piece and possibly stopped being used when certain restraints were prohibited and banned from use in the 1940's. This piece came from a personal collection of asylum restraints that came from Fairfield Sate hospital in Newtown Connecticut.
