I have been looking for years for this device and was fortunate enough to find it. The Heartmate II is a small powerful heart pump that aids patients with heart failure. This device is unique in that it’s a small, quiet pump that features a simple design—with only one moving part—and can provide blood flow equivalent to that of a healthy heart.

Although this is a retired piece it is a great piece of engineering and study object to add to ones heart device library. The pump comes with one inlet cannula attached. Unit was possibly used as a demo model and I tested it and it was working.

The HeartMate II is a type of “artificial heart” pump that is surgically placed within the chest to provide a means of durable support for patients with heart failure. This type of heart pump is known as a  Ventricular Assist Device (VAD), a pump that supports the heart by continuously flowing blood from the left ventricle to the aorta, therby relieving the work done by the native heart.. The HeartMate II is typically used in adolescent aged patients and allows for maximal rehabilitation such that most patients are able to be discharged from hospital and even attend school or return to work.
