Vintage Titanium Artificial Heart Museum Collectible Study Device
Vintage Titanium Artificial Heart Museum Collectible Study Device
This retired titanium artificial heart came from a thoracic surgeons private collection. This early ‘pump’ was mostly used to demonstrate the device and perform strategic scenarios before undertaking the actual surgery. A valuable learning tool that is highly useful for engineers, students, and educators. The heart is tagged ‘Not for Human Use’ as this was a training tool. A fascinating and beautiful sculptural object that is both art and functional.
The lengths humanity goes through to understand the body and help repair and prolong life amazes me. Not only is this object a piece to study but it also serves as a sort of meditative piece. This device was designed to help those bridge to transplantation when their hearts are in critical failure . The titanium model was an early version as the subsequent models were made of polymer and semi transparent.
Item is sold for collection and study purposes only. This is a retired item ideal for engineering study and reference library collections.
