1967 NASA KSC S.C.A.P.E Suit Apollo / Gemini Era
Self-Contained Atmospheric Protection Ensemble suits, used for Space Shuttle rescue operations and any other event which calls for complete atmospheric isolation. These Suits were worn by the NASA fuel team that handled the fueling of rockets /space craft, and worked in dangerous environments with oxidizers and fuel. If you watched the famous documentary ‘Command and Control’ you can see that these suits are constantly worn by the team when fueling the Titan II missile. This one is quite an early suit and is marked inside helmet with NASA Kennedy Space Center serial #152936. The helmet is number 908 which also corresponds with Apollo / Gemini era suits. Quite a beautiful piece of history and from this early design you can see how it mimics the early space suit design. The inside has cords and coils and speakers in the helmet for communications. You can see the patches that are all over, which is typical of suits and repair as they were used frequently— shown on a 6’ mannequin (not included)
