C.1890's Electrical Sphere Device
C.1890's Electrical Sphere Device
This unique and rather mysterious device consists of a wooden sphere made of two turned hollowed domes. The domes have a solid copper wire that is spiraled and held by tiny wires that were drilled and tied holding the coil form along the sphere. Both domes are joined forming this wooded sphere and copper spiral wire. The piece is on a stand and it is marked by J Bernaert Gand on both ends of the platform. This piece was most likely some type of electrical scientific device.
The piece has some wear that you would expect from an object being over 100 years old. the wooden sphere has been repaired over the years and has indications of where it got dinged, glued and filled. It is pretty stable and some areas were filled. One area on the bottom side the wires were impacted long ago but the sphere has many nice sides that it is not distracting. Beautiful aging on the wire and sphere make this a compelling object.
Measures: Base-17.75” x 11 3/8” 17” H and Sphere is approximately 12” in Diameter
