The F-104 Starfighter was the first iteration in a series of F-104 models. You can recall the famous subsequent model the F-104A that Chuck Yeager flew while attempting to break an altitude record. These ionic jets were used for many years due to their speed, altitude and fast climbing speed. It’s basically a missile that you can fly. The characteristic stout wings as shown here are on mounts and were tested at AMES NASA testing facility.
