Heavy Brass Demon Knocker (Chicago Tudor Mansion)
Heavy Brass Demon Knocker (Chicago Tudor Mansion)
One of the biggest removals I did when I was first was starting out was in an old tutor mansion out in the suburbs of Chicago. This house was once owned by a pioneering Chicago radio tycoon that eventually sold his beautiful custom tutor home to an orphanage back in the 1940’s to move to California for his asthmatic children’s health. I was quite fascinated and disturbed that this was the door knocker for the main house of the orphanage. I had to make a copy of it and managed to make a mold of this piece and cast in in bronze. I only made 3 and this is the last one. The piece measures 8.5” in diameter and weighs about 7lbs. It isn’t tooled and the knocker component that goes where the mouth is isn’t attached . It is just a nice record of this object but if you do desire to use it as a knocker it can be worked out. It makes a nice object that has a story of a place that does not exist anymore.
