This rare NASA prototype tooling helmet comes from the collection of Mr. Leo Fetty—a resin engineer that worked for the B.F Goodrich Company. B.F Goodrich was contracted by NASA and Mr. Fetty specifically worked on heat shields and helmets for the Mercury project in the 1950’s -60’s and also consulted on other NASA projects. The helmet is a tooling prototype that was used in designing and the modification process making the helmets to specification. The helmet is marked March 23 1960 Serial #1. Clear face shield has an old crack but otherwise stable and a remarkable behind the scenes object that made a great impact for space design and technology. Comes with custom stand. Helmet has multiple technical notations written all over and ‘Tooling Only’ written on the top.
