Phase VI NASA Phase VI Glove Restraint Flown on missions STS-115 and STS -126
This is the restraint layer of a spacesuit glove from the Shuttle and International Space Station eras. This glove fits over the plastic bladder layer that holds oxygen inside and restrains the interior from ballooning under pressurization. One can see the pulley and metal restraint system that allows for a tight fit. The fingertips have patches of Kevlar for strength and tactile sense. A white cover layer with finger heaters and added protection normally fits on the outside of the spacesuit glove. Glove Size: 6PP Listed as belonging to Heidemarie Stefanyshyn-Piper who flew on STS-115 and STS -126. Determined from NASA parts manifest.
Obtained from the Johnson Space Center (JSC), in original inventory bag with deaccession documents from NASA JSC.
See video below that shows a curator in the Smithsonian talking about the restraint glove.
