Mounted Lunar Map Cyanotype on Linen Ready to Hang Signed
What is important to mention about the blue moon map is that this piece is printed using an old photographic method (cyanotype) and not ink jet or computer print on paper. What is distinct is the intensity of the color this method produces. Many steps are necessary to achieve the unique finished work. A very large photo negative is used after the paper has been sensitized and dried. The map is then exposed, washed and dried. Once dry it is archival mounted to linen to permanently adhere the image giving it durability and flexibility.
This was an old method that is still in use by vintage poster collectors. It allows stability and the ability to roll and unroll the image without damaging the paper. This technique is also seen in old classroom maps ‘pull down’ type to allow rolling and unrolling. I find this method useful for those that like a minimal approach to hanging without having to frame a piece. One small hook or nail is all that is needed to hang the piece from the central loop. What you have is a unique art piece that different from any subsequent print. Signed in the lower right in pencil.
