Unframed Large Mt. Marilyn Lunar Map Signed by Captain Jim Lovell (Limited Edition of 10)
During the 1968 Apollo 8 spaceflight, while orbiting the moon, the crew was surveying the surface in preparation for the historic Apollo 11 moon landing. A navigational landmark was needed to guide the lunar module safely to the surface and a mountain near the designated site was identified. Captain James A. Lovell elected to name this important landmark after his high school sweetheart and loving wife Marilyn Lovell.
Becoming formally recognized by the International Astronomical Union in 2017 Mount Marilyn will forever be symbolic of their romance. To commemorate this Mariano Chavez of Agent Gallery has created a special hand printed map of the moon paying homage to Mount Marilyn and its place in history that have been signed by Captain Lovell. Printed on 300-gram watercolor paper made of 100% cotton rag paper using the cyanotype photographic process, these prints are double exposed to create a rich two-tone blue enhancing the lunar surface.
